Summer Solstice Special Edition: Celebrating the Light of Litha
Celebrate the Summer Solstice with this special edition blog post, exploring the abundance and joy of Litha. Discover seasonal foods, rituals, and creative ways to honor the longest day of the year. Join me in embracing the light and growth of this vibrant season as we reflect on the #CyclesOfCraft journey.
As we come to the close of this #CyclesOfCraft chapter, it feels like the perfect moment to pause, reflect, and celebrate everything we’ve created and embraced since Beltaine. The journey from the fertile fires of Beltaine to the full bloom of the Summer Solstice has been one of growth, illumination, and transformation. Now, at the peak of the sun's power, we step into Litha, the Summer Solstice, a time to honour the light, bask in the season’s abundance, and set intentions for the next cycle.
The #CyclesOfCraft Journey
During the #CyclesOfCraft, we have learnt how to work with the lunar phases in our creative practice: the New Moon, First Quarter, Full Moon, Last Quarter, and Dark Moon. When to begin projects, when to look at wrapping them up, even when to pause at the Dark Moon before starting again. Following these cycles and working with the changing seasons has allowed us to tap into natural rhythms and let them influence our creative process. The colours of each season have provided inspiration, while the summer heat has shaped how we work, sometimes making mediums like acrylic paint or air-dry clay unworkable. I’ve used this time to explore and learn watercolours, embracing their lightness and flow during these warmer months.
What is the Summer Solstice?
The Summer Solstice, or Litha, marks the longest day and shortest night of the year. It is a celebration of the sun’s full strength and the abundance it brings to the earth. Traditionally, it is a time of joy, community, and gratitude, as we honour the gifts of the light while acknowledging that, from here, the days will begin to shorten as the Wheel of the Year continues to turn.
For those of us in the Southern Hemisphere, celebrating the Summer Solstice carries its own unique energy. While much of the world aligns this day with June, we experience the full vibrancy of Litha in December. Our celebration falls in the height of summer’s warmth, buzzing with life and the energy of the holiday season. It is a perfect opportunity to reconnect with the rhythms of nature here in Australia, where the sun graces us with its golden power.
Colours, Symbols & Themes of Litha
Litha is all about embracing the radiance of the sun and celebrating abundance, life, and creativity. Its themes include:
Joy and celebration
Fertility and abundance
Growth and gratitude
Balance and reflection
Colours:
Gold, yellow, orange, red, green, and white
Symbols:
The sun, sunflowers, Eucalyptus, kangaroo paw, bottlebrush, and native mint. fire, fresh fruits, bees, honey, and seasonal flowers
Crystals & Herbs:
Citrine, sunstone, carnelian; lavender, chamomile, rosemary, basil, and mint
Ways to Celebrate the Summer Solstice
Whether you choose to celebrate the Solstice alone or with loved ones, there are many ways to honour the day and its light. Here are some suggestions:
Celebrate with a Group
Host a Solstice Gathering: Share a meal outdoors, incorporating fresh, seasonal foods and drinks. Think vibrant salads, summer fruits, and herbal teas.
Create a Shared Altar: Invite everyone to bring something symbolic of the season—flowers, candles, fruits, or personal intentions.
Light a Bonfire or Candles: A nod to ancient Solstice traditions, fire represents the sun’s power. Gather around for storytelling, singing, or intention-setting.
A Ritual to Honour the Summer Solstice
This ritual is a beautiful way to mark the Solstice, reflect on your growth, and set intentions for the season ahead. You can do it alone or invite others to join you.
Preparation
Prepare your altar space with symbols of the Solstice: flowers, candles, sun imagery, fresh fruit, seasonal herbs, and native Australian flowers like eucalyptus or kangaroo paw.
Play music that reflects the theme of joy and sunlight. I’ll be sharing a special Spotify playlist to set the tone.
Welcome the Day
Rise early to watch the sunrise, symbolising the light flooding into your life.
Take a cleansing shower, bath, or swim. If possible, use herbs like rosemary, lavender, or mint in the water to refresh and renew.
Dress in Litha colours: gold, orange, red, or green.
Reflection & Intention-Setting
Let the sunlight into your space by opening windows or stepping outside. Feel the balance of light and dark restoring your energy and spirit.
Draw 3 cards from a tarot or oracle deck to reflect on:
What light do I need to embrace?
What is ready to grow in my life?
What can I release to create balance?
Journal your reflections using this prompt: What light am I ready to embrace in this new season? What intentions or affirmations will guide me as I move forward? Allow yourself to get creative—sketch, paint, or collage your insights.
Celebrate & Give Thanks
Prepare a meal or snacks using fresh, seasonal produce that honours the Australian summer. Some ideas include:
Vibrant summer salads with mango, avocado, and native herbs
Fruit platters featuring watermelon, berries, and stone fruits
Herbal iced teas with mint, lemon myrtle, or chamomile
Honey drizzled on fresh bread or scones with native jam
As you enjoy your meal, take a moment to give thanks for the light, the earth’s abundance, and all you have cultivated this season.
The Joy of Living
At the heart of the Solstice is a celebration of life itself—a day to pause, soak in the sun’s warmth, and feel joy radiating within and around us. As the French say, Joie de Vivre (the joy of living) reminds us to embrace this light while it is at its fullest.
The intentions and affirmations you set now can be seeds for what’s to come as we move towards the next New Moon. Think of this as the beginning of your vision board, which we’ll create together when the new year begins.
Wishing you all a joyful and radiant Summer Solstice! May it fill your heart with light and set you on a path of growth and abundance.
Keep an eye out for what’s coming next in the #CyclesOfCraft journey. A new cycle is always just around the corner.
What are your favorite ways to celebrate the Solstice? I’d love to hear how you connect with this day’s energy. Share your thoughts in the comments below or over on Instagram—and don’t forget to tag me in your celebrations!
This special edition Summer Solstice blog was brought to life with the help of Canva Dream Lab, where all images were carefully crafted to reflect the vibrant energy and abundance of the season. Exploring new creative skills through Canva Dream Lab has been a rewarding experience, and I’m excited to continue using these tools to bring my artistic vision to life. Thank you for joining me in this celebration of light and growth!
Crafting the Seasons: Release, Reflect, and Create
As the last Full Moon of the year shines in Gemini, it’s the perfect time to reflect, release what no longer serves us, and prepare for a fresh start in 2025. Join me in embracing this Full Moon’s transformative energy, with a creative art journal prompt to help guide your reflections and releases.
As we reach the last Full Moon of the year, it's time to reflect on what we want to release before stepping into the new year. The Gemini Full Moon invites us to let go of any mental clutter or outdated beliefs that might be holding us back. It's also the perfect time to release what no longer serves us as we prepare for the seasonal shift to Litha, the Summer Solstice. In this post, we will reflect on personal growth, creative practice, and the importance of releasing, while also celebrating the launch of my new Redbubble shop, where you can now find my Crow series and two exciting new Christmas-themed collections. Read on for some reflections, creative inspiration, and an art journal prompt to guide you through this powerful time.
Life and Studio Update:
Since the new moon, my days have been a balance of rehab, medical appointments, and spending time with loved ones. I’m recovering from a procedure that I hope will alleviate some of my pain and allow me to get more out of my rehab program. It’s a slow process, but I am focusing on healing and finding new ways to engage with my art.
Amid the busy days, I made sure to carve out time for family. I spent a beautiful day with them, enjoying a lovely lunch out and watching my grandkids decorate the Christmas tree. It was a beautiful moment that reminded me of the importance of traditions and how they carry on from one generation to the next.
I also had the chance to attend the RMIT Advance Diploma Graduate Exhibition with a friend. The creativity on display was truly inspiring and sparked some new ideas for my own practice. I’ll share some photos of my favourite pieces below for you to check out.
In exciting art news, I caught up with my art school friends recently, and we decided to work on a group exhibition for May next year. We’re calling it Creativa – Presented by Collective 24, and I’ll keep you all updated with details as we get closer to the event. It’s so exciting to be collaborating with this talented group of artists!
I also attended the graduation of my classmates at LCAD, which was bittersweet. I had to defer my studies this year, but it was wonderful to celebrate everyone's hard work and accomplishments. Unfortunately, I’m facing some challenges with the building's accessibility and the administrations reluctance to assist with complying with the regulations, which might mean I’ll need to transfer to continue my studies. It's disappointing, but at this point, I’m choosing not to expend my energy on the battle.
This cycle in #MakeCreateExpress24 I really enjoyed Pam Thorburn’s lesson - Butterfly Garden. It was a fun, colourful exploration of negative space painting. You can still join if you’re interested at Art is Magic Online. I also took part in an online watercolour workshop with Olga Koelsch, focusing on transparent flowers, which has been a technique I’ve been practicing the last few weeks.
Don’t forget you can listen in on this month’s Studio Playlist.
Artist of the Season - Helen Frankenthaler:
This month, I’d like to celebrate Helen Frankenthaler, born December 12, 1928, a pioneering artist known for her contributions to Abstract Expressionism and the development of Colour Field Painting. Frankenthaler’s unique approach to colour and form has been an inspiration in both my own work and the larger art world. She famously used a technique called soak-stain, where she poured thinned paint directly onto unprimed canvas, creating fluid, vibrant compositions. A technique similar to Acrylic Pouring, which I explored extensively a few years ago. Frankenthaler’s fearless exploration of abstraction and her innovative use of colour have left an indelible mark on contemporary art. You can find out more about Helen here.
Gemini Full Moon: What Are You Releasing?
This Gemini Full Moon is the last of the year, and it’s a perfect time to release what no longer serves you. Gemini is ruled by Mercury, the planet of communication and mental clarity, making it a powerful time to reflect on the thoughts, beliefs, or habits you’re ready to let go of. As we approach the end of 2024, take a moment to consider what you want to leave behind, both personally and creatively.
Art Journal Prompt:
Take some time to reflect on what you need to release. Use your art journal to express this release visually. Perhaps you can paint over or tear out pages that no longer align with your current intentions. Feel free to experiment with layers, colours, or textures to represent the act of shedding the old. What mental clutter or creative blockages are you ready to clear? Write it down and make room for new growth.
Litha – The Summer Solstice:
On December 21, we will celebrate Litha, the Summer Solstice in the Southern Hemisphere. This is a time of abundance and growth, symbolising the peak of the sun’s energy before it begins to wane. Litha is a celebration of light, vitality, and transformation. Traditionally, it is a time to honour the sun and its life-giving force, and to reflect on the seeds we have planted throughout the year. As the Wheel of the Year turns toward Litha, it’s an opportunity to celebrate the successes and growth we’ve achieved.
You can celebrate Litha by spending time outdoors, lighting candles, or creating art that connects with the energy of the sun. It’s a time to honour the light within yourself and the abundance in your life.
#CyclesOfCraft Update:
As we come to the end of this lunar cycle and head into 2025, I’m reflecting on the journey of #CyclesOfCraft. This project has been such a meaningful part of my creative practice, and I’m excited to continue exploring the upcoming seasonal cycles as we move toward Lammas in the new year. I’ll be sharing more about this in the next blog post, so stay tuned for updates!
Redbubble Shop:
Before I wrap up, I’m thrilled to announce that my Crow Series is now available for purchase on Redbubble! You can find prints, home goods, and other items featuring my original artwork. I’ve also launched two Christmas-themed collections—just in time for the holiday season. These festive designs feature my signature style and are perfect for gifts or decorating your space.
Visit my Redbubble shop today and explore the new collections.
Wrapping Up:
As we approach the end of the year, it’s a powerful time for reflection, release, and renewal. I hope this post has inspired you to embrace the energy of the Gemini Full Moon and the Litha celebration, and to take some time for personal release before stepping into 2025.
Please share your releases with me on social media using #CyclesOfCraft and #ReleaseWithMe. Let’s support each other in letting go of what no longer serves us and creating space for new beginnings.
Sagittarius New Moon: Fresh Starts and Big Dreams
This New Moon, landing on December 1st, is in the expansive sign of Sagittarius. As the second last New Moon of the year, it’s a perfect time to reflect on how far we’ve come and dream big for what’s next. Sagittarius energy invites us to explore, take risks, and aim high, reminding us to trust in the journey even when the destination is unclear.
For me, this New Moon feels like a moment to set intentions around personal growth and creative exploration. What are the big dreams you’ve been holding back on? Now’s the time to plant those seeds and let them take root as we move toward the new year.

Studio Update
This cycle in Make, Create, Express, I’ve been working through Vanessa Oliver-Lloyd’s incredible workshops on the Soul Path Archetype. I discovered that my Soul Path Tarot Card is the Emperor, which represents structure, stability, and leadership. In balance, the Emperor is a grounded protector and builder. In its shadow, it can manifest as rigidity or an overemphasis on control. Exploring these aspects through Vanessa’s lessons has been a fascinating deep dive into light and shadow, both in art and life.
In the studio, I’ve been playing with watercolours, especially during the recent heatwave here in Melbourne. Acrylics have been tricky to work with in this weather, but watercolours have provided a meditative and rewarding alternative.
Collage Lab’s Treasure Trovember: November has also been a whirlwind of creativity thanks to Collage Lab's daily collage prompts. Each day introduced a new element to add to a collage, and I loved the challenge of weaving these elements into a cohesive piece. Check out the reel on my socials where I assemble the final collage—it’s been so much fun!
One of the biggest shifts in my practice recently has been with a large painting I’ve been working on for months. After sitting with her for a while, I decided to gesso over the background, giving myself permission to start fresh. It’s a reminder that art is ever evolving, and we’re allowed to change direction, even mid-project. I will now see what her story will become.
This month’s Studio Tunes playlist is all about keeping it calm and steady. It’s a mix of gentle indie, soft pop, and chill vibes. Perfect for slowing down and finding your flow in the studio.
The Business of Art: Launching My Redbubble Shop
I’ve taken a big step into the world of online art sales with the launch of my Redbubble shop! Currently, you’ll find The Crow Series, featuring my original artwork, available on a range of products. This has been a huge learning curve for me—navigating the business side of art and venturing into e-commerce—but it’s also an exciting adventure.
I’m working on a Christmas collection, which I have started releasing. The shop is a work in progress, and I’ll be adding more collections as I go. It feels like stepping into a whole new phase of my creative journey, and I can’t wait to see where it leads.
#CyclesOfCraft: Embracing Moon Phases and Seasonal Shifts
In case you haven’t caught it on socials, my #CyclesOfCraft campaign has been exploring how the moon phases and seasonal changes influence my creative practice. The moon’s cycles provide a natural rhythm that aligns with how I approach art:
New Moon: A time for fresh starts and setting intentions.
Waxing Moon: Building momentum and taking action on those goals.
Full Moon: A period of culmination, celebration, and release.
Waning Moon: A chance to slow down, reflect, and prepare for the next cycle.
The recent heatwave has also reminded me how much the seasons shape my practice. The intense heat and humidity have zapped my energy, triggering fatigue and pain, but they’ve also pushed me toward more adaptable and slower art forms like collage and watercolours. This season is teaching me to flow with these cycles instead of resisting them.
Artist of the Season: Marina Abramović
Born November 30, 1946, Marina Abramović is a legendary figure in performance art, fearlessly exploring the extremes of the human condition. Over her five-decade career, she has delved into themes of love, war, ritual, and spirituality, redefining the relationship between artist and audience.
One of her most haunting and courageous performances, Rhythm 0 (1974), lasted six hours and involved Abramović standing passively in a gallery while the audience was invited to interact with her using 72 objects placed on a table. These objects ranged from innocuous items like a feather, a rose, and honey to more sinister ones such as scissors, a scalpel, and a loaded gun. The instructions were simple: the audience could use the objects on her however they pleased, with Abramović relinquishing all control over her body.
Initially, the interactions were harmless and playful. But as the hours passed, the performance revealed a disturbing side of humanity. Encouraged by her passivity, some participants—primarily men—escalated their actions, cutting her clothes, writing on her body, and even holding the loaded gun to her head. Abramović described the experience as showing how quickly people could be dehumanized and dehumanize others when given unchecked power. By the end, she was bleeding, bruised, and emotionally drained, but her unwavering commitment to the performance held a mirror to the darkest impulses of society. Tragically, the themes of this performance remain painfully relevant, as women worldwide continue to face objectification and violence.
Rhythm 0 was part of a broader series exploring the physical and psychological limits of the human body. In Rhythm 5 (1974), Abramović created a star-shaped fire on the floor, laying within its flames until she lost consciousness due to oxygen deprivation. This near-death experience led her to realize that the purpose of her art was to push the boundaries of her body and mind.
In her later career, Abramović has continued to innovate, moving beyond the limits of her own endurance to guide others. The Serpentine Performance led her to develop the Abramović Method, a practice designed to help audiences enter the focused, meditative state required to fully engage with performance art. This method bridges the gap between artist and viewer, inviting participants into a space of shared vulnerability and transformation.
Marina Abramović’s work is a testament to bravery and resilience, consistently challenging societal norms and forcing us to confront uncomfortable truths. Her performances remain as powerful and thought-provoking today as when they were first conceived, solidifying her legacy as a pioneer in contemporary art. You can find out more about Marina here.

Looking Ahead
I’m so excited about the launch of my new Redbubble shop —keep an eye on the socials for updates!
This month, I’m also looking forward to attending the RMIT Advanced Diploma Graduate Show and celebrating the successes of my LCAD classmates at their Graduate Show. Even though I’ve deferred my studies due to my disability, I’m thrilled to see their hard work come to life.
Finally, don’t forget that my work, The Unseen Woman, is still on display at the Merri Bek Summer Show at the Counihan Gallery until December 14th. There is still time to vote in the People’s Choice Awards too, I would be really grateful if you could take a few minutes to vote for piece. You can use this link to vote.
Here’s to embracing the adventurous, expansive energy of Sagittarius as we close out the year.
Taurus Full Moon Reflections & Studio Updates
As we move through the Full Moon in Taurus, I find myself drawn to this sign's themes of stability, beauty, and valuing the small, steady progress in both life and art. Taurus invites us to take pleasure in our senses and find strength in grounding practices. Qualities that resonate deeply in my creative process and, especially, with Unseen Woman, my piece now on view at the Counihan Gallery until December 14.
As we move through the Super Full Moon in Taurus, I find myself drawn to this sign's themes of stability, beauty, and valuing the small, steady progress in both life and art. Taurus invites us to take pleasure in our senses and find strength in grounding practices. Qualities that resonate deeply in my creative process and, especially, with Unseen Woman, my piece now on view at the Counihan Gallery until December 14.
The Story of Unseen Woman
Creating Unseen Woman has been an incredibly personal journey. I started her before my long hospital stay, but her meaning has shifted and deepened with my own experiences. Now, as a woman in my early 50s navigating life in a wheelchair, her story feels even more relevant.
This piece portrays a sheer, ghostly figure of a woman, capturing the growing invisibility many women experience as they age. Within the theme of (Be)Longing, the work reflects on the tension between the desire to belong and the reality of being overlooked. The translucent, ethereal form embodies the quiet struggle of women longing to be seen in a society that too often looks past them.
For me, this piece also became a symbol of resilience. Feeling unseen, especially now, has brought new layers of strength to my life and into this work. Through Unseen Woman, I hope to spark a conversation about valuing women at every stage of life—their presence, wisdom, and worth. All women deserve to be seen.
Unseen Woman is on display at the Merri Bek Summer Show until December 14. I’d love to hear your thoughts if you get a chance to visit.
The Exhibition Opening and Reflections on Rest
The opening of the Merri bek Summer Show was an incredible experience. Being part of such a vibrant community of artists and celebrating our creations together felt like a beautiful culmination of hard work. I even had the surreal honour of exhibiting alongside a former teacher, a special moment that underscored how far my journey has come. But as much as I wanted to immerse myself in it all, I had to carve out a few days afterward to rest and recharge. Living with a disability means managing energy carefully, even around joyous events. Taurus reminds me to respect my limits, acknowledging that true strength often comes from knowing when to pause.
Crafting the Seasons: The #CyclesOfCraft Campaign
This Full Moon also marks a key moment in my #CyclesOfCraft campaign, celebrating the rhythm of the earth’s cycles in my art. Aligned with spring and leading up to the summer solstice, #CyclesOfCraft is about honouring the seasonal transitions that shape my work. This journey invites us all to notice how the earth’s rhythms can inspire us, whether in our creative practices or daily lives. From the sensual blooms of spring to the vibrant energy of summer, I’m looking forward to sharing more reflections on how these cycles influence my art. You can follow along on the socials and I’d love to hear if, and how, your creative work aligns with the seasons too.
A Spring-Inspired Studio Update
In the studio, spring continues to inspire my colour palette, especially as I explore watercolours, a medium that brings a soft, fluid feel to my Yoni project. Working with the fresh hues of the season feels rejuvenating and connects beautifully with my exploration of feminine archetypes. For a closer look into my creative process, check out my recent reel on Instagram, where I share a behind-the-scenes view of Unseen Woman’s journey from concept to gallery. This week’s lesson in Make, Create, Express featured fun, fish-inspired doodles, a light-hearted shift in pace that brought out my playful side. If you're curious about Make, Create, Express, remember that Art is Magic Online is offering a two-week free trial of the taster sessions. I highly recommend it for anyone looking to explore new creative avenues.
An Artist Date to Remember
This lunar cycle’s artist date was a lunch with friends from art school, reconnecting before heading to the exhibition opening together. It felt grounding to share that day with familiar faces, friends who have seen my evolution as an artist. Having the opportunity to show my work in the same space as some of my mentors brought a feeling of completion—like a circle closing, marking progress.
Artist of the Season: Georgia O'Keeffe
This season, I'm inspired by Georgia O'Keeffe, one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. Born on November 15, 1887, O'Keeffe was a pioneering American artist known for her iconic, large-scale flower paintings, sweeping desert landscapes, and abstract forms that capture the beauty, sensuality, and strength in nature. Often called the "Mother of American Modernism," she transformed everyday natural subjects—flowers, bones, and mountains—into powerful expressions of colour, form, and emotion.
Her deep connection to nature resonates with the spirit of this Taurus Full Moon, as well as with my ongoing Yoni project. O'Keeffe’s intense focus on the inner essence of her subjects invites viewers to see beyond the surface, tapping into a sensual, almost meditative appreciation of form. Her work captures the kind of grounded, intimate beauty I’m inspired to explore this season as I experiment with soft spring hues and feminine themes. You can find out more about Georgia here.
Looking Ahead
As I lean into Taurean energy, I'll continue my journey with watercolours and the colours of spring, sharing updates as we approach the summer solstice. Join me in following the #CyclesOfCraft campaign on socials, where I’d love to hear your thoughts, ideas, and inspirations. How does your creative practice flow with the seasons or cycles?
Here's to grounding ourselves in beauty, stability, and honouring every bit of progress—one brushstroke at a time.
New Moon in Scorpio: Intentions, Transformations, and the Art of Reconnecting.
New Moon in Scorpio: Intentions, Transformations, and the Art of Recon...
With the eclipse season behind us, the skies are open for setting intentions under this New Moon in Scorpio. A powerful moment for manifesting dreams and embracing transformation. This cycle feels especially personal, as it aligns with my birthday, marking the end of one chapter and the beginning of another. My intentions go beyond this lunar cycle and extend into my next year around the sun, as I consider what I wish to manifest and transform.
The energy of Scorpio urges us into the depths, welcoming shadow work and the power of transformation. My piece for the Merri Bek Summer Show reflects these themes, exploring hidden layers of self and society. This new moon’s energy holds the potential for profound change, encouraging us to dive into what we often leave unseen.
Now that the intensity of eclipse season has passed, I’m setting intentions with renewed clarity. This is the perfect time for new beginnings, releasing old cycles, and moving forward with fresh purpose. Scorpio’s transformative energy resonates deeply as I reflect on my journey and the visions I want to nurture.
In the Southern Hemisphere, we are also celebrating Beltaine, the festival of fire, fertility, and creation. This ancient festival is a celebration of life, marking the halfway point between the Spring Equinox and Summer Solstice. Traditionally, Beltaine was a time to honour growth, passion, and abundance, as well as to revel in the fertility of the earth. The seasonal energy of Beltaine resonates beautifully with Scorpio’s themes, reminding us that through embracing transformation, we ignite the fires of our creativity.
Studio Update
In the studio, things have been full of activity. I dropped my work off this week for the Merri-bek Summer Show, which opens on November 9th from 2-4pm. I’ve also been experimenting with watercolors, a new medium for me, and I’m thrilled to have my new Kuretake GANSAI TAMBI Art Nouveau watercolors ready to play with. Check my Instagram page for my unboxing. I’ve been enjoying the artistic exploration from recent classes in Make Create Express, including a spontaneous watercolor class with Angela Fehr, and Play to Express with Jenny Grant (check out the process video on Instagram!). Art is Magic online has announced some exciting news, they will be making the taster sessions free for two weeks starting November 18th. If you would like to have some fun and see what I have been doing in the yearlong workshop jump over here and have a look. I also enjoyed a mixed media session from Laura Horne over at Lorna Horne Art. This cycle has been brimming with creative exploration and inspiration, especially as I begin to see my Yoni project take shape. I will update you more on this one in a later edition.
Sadly, I won’t be able to attend the Fairy Ball I had looked forward to, the reality of living with a disability often means adjusting plans, even the ones I’m most excited for.
An Artist Date and Reconnection
Recently, I enjoyed an "Artist Date" with friends from art school—our first time reconnecting since I was admitted to the hospital at the end of term 1. We met at a cozy cafe in Carlton, spending a beautiful afternoon outside, catching up and joining in a fun guided activity. Reconnecting with them brought so much joy and reminded me of the creative cycles of friendship, and the importance of friends in our lives.
Artist of the Season: Hilma af Klint
This season, I’m drawing inspiration from Hilma af Klint, a Scorpio herself, who embraced transformation and delved into unseen realms through her art. Her work speaks to a spiritual vision that defied the norms of her time, boldly paving the way in a male-dominated art world. I admire her courage and the fearless way she pursued her craft. af Klint’s devotion to unveiling hidden truths resonates with the energy of Scorpio and the deeper layers I seek to explore in my own work. Find out more about Hilma and her paintings here.
Looking Ahead
As this new moon and birthday bring a new beginning, I feel aligned with the Scorpio spirit of diving into the depths and shedding the old to make way for transformation. This time of year, with Beltaine’s vibrancy and the magic of Halloween still lingering, feels especially potent. A reminder of the cycles of death, rebirth, and creation. As I set my intentions, I’m excited for the transformations to come, both in my art and in the path ahead. Here’s to new beginnings and embracing the mystery of what lies beneath. I would love to hear about your plan’s for embracing this the energies, let me know over on the Socials.

Super Full Moon in Aries: Boldness, Release & Progress
As we reach the full moon in Aries on 17 October, I’m leaning into the themes of boldness, initiative, and celebrating progress. This cycle has been full of breakthroughs and some personal challenges, but I’ve learned that courage shows up in many ways.

As we reach the Super Full Moon in Aries on 17 October, I’m leaning into the themes of boldness, initiative, and celebrating progress. This cycle has been full of breakthroughs and some personal challenges, but I’ve learned that courage shows up in many ways.
The full moon is also a time of release. With the sun in Libra and the moon in Aries, we are called to find balance between harmony and action, between peace and boldness. Consider what no longer serves you and is holding you back from embracing your true self. For me, I’m releasing the fear of not being “enough” in my work, my health, and my personal life. It’s been weighing me down, and now is the time to let go. What fears or doubts can you release to make room for new growth? Let go of indecision, self-doubt, or the need for approval from others so you can step confidently into your power.
I invite you to join me in this release and share what you're letting go of on social media—tag me so we can support each other through this phase of transformation!
Studio Update
I’m excited to share that the piece I was working on during the last cycle has been accepted into the Merri Bek Summer Show at the Counihan Gallery in Brunswick. The theme of the exhibition is (Be)Longing, and I’m thrilled to be a part of it. The opening is on 9 November at 2 pm, which also happens to be my birthday! I won’t share too much about the work yet—more details to come later.
In the Make, Create, Express course, I’ve been working on a few abstract pieces, and you can check out my process reels over on Instagram. Meanwhile, in my other course, The Art of Individuation, this week’s lecture, "An Opening in the Hedgerow: Women’s Mysticism in the Christian Late Middle Ages," has sparked something deep in me. It’s drawn me back to an idea I’ve been nurturing for a while—exploring the yoni as a hedgerow, both rich in symbolism.
The yoni is a Sanskrit term representing the physical womb, vagina, and vulva, literally being the source of life. It is also a symbol of the divine feminine, associated with creation, birth, and rebirth. The hedgerow, traditionally a physical boundary between fields, also holds spiritual meaning. It is seen as a liminal space—a boundary not just between the physical world but between realms, representing an opening to the other side, to the divine. These ideas are deeply connected for me, and I can feel the beginnings of a new body of work forming. I’ll keep you updated as this unfolds.
Studio sessions are not complete without some tunes. Check out this month’s playlist. What have you been listening to? Jump over to the socials and let me know what you would add.
Living with Disability
This cycle has been tough on my health. Managing pain and the emotional strain has taken its toll, but I’ve been focusing on summoning courage in my art and rehabilitation. On the days when my body struggles, I’ve been quietly working on some website updates and playing with graphic design to create a more cohesive look for my blog and socials. It’s slow progress, but it’s something I can manage when energy is low.
Artist Date
I had a much-needed artist date this week when I visited my hometown, with a dear friend, to see the incredible Kate Miller-Heidke, supported by the beautiful Georgia Mooney. The experience was nostalgic, full of old memories, and even better, I reconnected with an old friend—an unexpected but lovely surprise.
Artist of the Season: Rosaleen Norton
This season’s featured artist is Rosaleen Norton, famously known as the Witch of Kings Cross. Norton, an Australian artist and occultist, challenged societal norms through her visionary art and mystical practices. Her work, heavily influenced by esotericism and paganism, explored the supernatural, often depicting gods, demons, and mythological creatures. As one of the earliest “Art Witches,” Norton fused her spirituality with her artistic expression, carving a path for those who seek to combine magic and art. Her defiance of conventional morality and fearless embrace of the taboo make her an inspiration for this full moon's themes of boldness and release. You should definitely look into her life and artwork; you can start here. There is also a wonderful bio pic you can watch; you can find the details here.
Looking Ahead
As the Southern Hemisphere wheel turns towards Beltaine, I’m looking forward to celebrating at a Fairy Ball. The theme is Gods and Goddesses, and I’ve been putting my creative energy into making a costume. If you’re still celebrating Samhain or Halloween, remember there’s still time to order from my Crow Series and get it before the end of the month! Order you journal here. If you would like to order postcards or the Limited-Edition Framed Prints email me.
Here’s to stepping into the boldness of the full moon, releasing what holds us back, and celebrating our progress, no matter how small.
New Moon, New Beginnings: A Journey Back to Art
As the New Moon rises today, accompanied by a partial solar eclipse, I’m embracing the energy of new beginnings. Libra, the sign of balance, harmony, and relationships, invites us to reflect on where we need find balance in our lives and creative practice. This lunar cycle feels especially powerful, coming just after the Spring Equinox, Ostara, here in the Southern Hemisphere, a time when light and dark are equal, reminding us of the beauty in balance and transition.
Libra New Moon
As the New Moon rises today, accompanied by a partial solar eclipse, I’m embracing the energy of new beginnings. Libra, the sign of balance, harmony, and relationships, invites us to reflect on where we need find balance in our lives and creative practice. Setting Intentions:
A Fresh Start
I’ve always felt a deep connection to the cycles of nature and the moon. Aligning my creative process with these cycles not only grounds me but also infuses my work with a sense of purpose and flow. Today, I’m setting my intentions for the upcoming months, focusing on creating art that speaks to the themes I’m passionate about—women’s rights, social justice, and the often-overlooked experiences of living with disability.
“My Art is my Craft and My Craft is my Art”—this mantra has been my guiding light. It reminds me that my practice is not just about the finished pieces but about the ongoing journey, the process of creating, reflecting, and growing. This new moon, I’m particularly inspired by the idea of balance—how to find harmony between my art and advocacy, my personal and creative life, and my inner and outer worlds.
Earlier this year, I spent nine weeks in hospital, which kept me away from my art for a significant time. The experience has profoundly impacted my life, as I’m now navigating the world in a wheelchair with limited mobility. Back home, I’ve reorganised my studio and, between physiotherapy and hydrotherapy sessions, I’m finally creating again.
Studio Update:
Exploring Balance and Harmony
In the studio, I’ve been working on my entry for the Merri-bek Summer Show. This year's theme is “(Be)Longing”. I have been thinking a lot about visibility and how it changes over time. Without giving too much away, I’m playing around with some ghostly, layered forms to explore what it feels like to be seen—or not seen—as we get older. It’s still a work in progress, but I’m excited (and a little nervous!) to see how it all comes together.
I’m grateful to have won a spot in the yearlong Make, Create, Express workshop by Art is Magic Online This incredible program, featuring diverse lessons from talented artists worldwide, has been a lifeline, keeping me creatively engaged and inspired. I can’t wait to share my new work with you! I strongly encourage you to check out their workshops.
I'm also taking a short course inspired by Jennifer Higgie's book, The Other Side: A Journey into Women, Art and the Spirit World. I first discovered this book during my time at art school while researching women artists who incorporated spiritual themes in their work. I’m deeply intrigued by how these artists intertwined their creative processes with their beliefs and explored otherworldly dimensions in their art.
Artist of the Season: Libra
Maya Lin and the Art of Reflection
This lunar cycle, I’m inspired by Maya Lin who was born under the sign of Libra, a renowned artist and architect known for integrating art, architecture, and the environment. Her work, such as the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, redefines public spaces and commemorative art. Beyond memorials, Lin’s creations often highlight environmental issues, transforming landscapes into contemplative spaces that raise awareness. Her philosophy, “to make people aware of their surroundings,” resonates with the themes of reflection and connection I’m exploring in my own work this cycle. Learn more about Maya Lin here
Looking Ahead:
Themes of Balance and Justice
Over the next two weeks, leading up to the Full Moon in Aries, I’ll be focusing on the concept of balance—not just in my art, but also in my advocacy work. I want to explore how these two aspects of my life intersect and support each other. How can I create art that not only expresses my personal experiences but also amplifies the voices and stories of others who are often silenced?
Embracing the Eclipse
Eclipses are known for shaking things up, bringing unexpected changes and revelations. This partial solar eclipse in Libra feels like a cosmic invitation to re-evaluate, to let go of what no longer serves, and to make space for new growth. I’m excited—and a little nervous—to see where this energy takes me. But I trust that, by staying connected to my intentions and my craft, I’ll navigate these shifts with grace and purpose.
As we move through this cycle together, I invite you to reflect on your own life. Where do you need more balance? What new beginnings are you ready to welcome? Please let me know on the Socials your reflections. Let’s embrace this Libra New Moon as an opportunity to realign, renew, and create with intention.
Seasonal Celebration:
In the Southern Hemisphere we are approaching Beltaine. However, at this time of the year many of us celebrate Samhain. I know it’s hard not to when everyone else is embracing Halloween. So as Samhain/Halloween approach, it's the perfect time to welcome the Crow into your space. My Crow Journals, featuring original Lino cut artwork, are available now on Amazon. You can also order crow-themed postcards directly via email, and framed, limited-edition prints are available for those seeking a unique piece. Order soon to ensure delivery before the end of the month!
