New Moon in Scorpio: Intentions, Transformations, and the Art of Reconnecting.
With the eclipse season behind us, the skies are open for setting intentions under this New Moon in Scorpio. A powerful moment for manifesting dreams and embracing transformation. This cycle feels especially personal, as it aligns with my birthday, marking the end of one chapter and the beginning of another. My intentions go beyond this lunar cycle and extend into my next year around the sun, as I consider what I wish to manifest and transform.
The energy of Scorpio urges us into the depths, welcoming shadow work and the power of transformation. My piece for the Merri Bek Summer Show reflects these themes, exploring hidden layers of self and society. This new moon’s energy holds the potential for profound change, encouraging us to dive into what we often leave unseen.
Now that the intensity of eclipse season has passed, I’m setting intentions with renewed clarity. This is the perfect time for new beginnings, releasing old cycles, and moving forward with fresh purpose. Scorpio’s transformative energy resonates deeply as I reflect on my journey and the visions I want to nurture.
In the Southern Hemisphere, we are also celebrating Beltaine, the festival of fire, fertility, and creation. This ancient festival is a celebration of life, marking the halfway point between the Spring Equinox and Summer Solstice. Traditionally, Beltaine was a time to honour growth, passion, and abundance, as well as to revel in the fertility of the earth. The seasonal energy of Beltaine resonates beautifully with Scorpio’s themes, reminding us that through embracing transformation, we ignite the fires of our creativity.
Studio Update
In the studio, things have been full of activity. I dropped my work off this week for the Merri-bek Summer Show, which opens on November 9th from 2-4pm. I’ve also been experimenting with watercolors, a new medium for me, and I’m thrilled to have my new Kuretake GANSAI TAMBI Art Nouveau watercolors ready to play with. Check my Instagram page for my unboxing. I’ve been enjoying the artistic exploration from recent classes in Make Create Express, including a spontaneous watercolor class with Angela Fehr, and Play to Express with Jenny Grant (check out the process video on Instagram!). Art is Magic online has announced some exciting news, they will be making the taster sessions free for two weeks starting November 18th. If you would like to have some fun and see what I have been doing in the yearlong workshop jump over here and have a look. I also enjoyed a mixed media session from Laura Horne over at Lorna Horne Art. This cycle has been brimming with creative exploration and inspiration, especially as I begin to see my Yoni project take shape. I will update you more on this one in a later edition.
Sadly, I won’t be able to attend the Fairy Ball I had looked forward to, the reality of living with a disability often means adjusting plans, even the ones I’m most excited for.
An Artist Date and Reconnection
Recently, I enjoyed an "Artist Date" with friends from art school—our first time reconnecting since I was admitted to the hospital at the end of term 1. We met at a cozy cafe in Carlton, spending a beautiful afternoon outside, catching up and joining in a fun guided activity. Reconnecting with them brought so much joy and reminded me of the creative cycles of friendship, and the importance of friends in our lives.
Artist of the Season: Hilma af Klint
This season, I’m drawing inspiration from Hilma af Klint, a Scorpio herself, who embraced transformation and delved into unseen realms through her art. Her work speaks to a spiritual vision that defied the norms of her time, boldly paving the way in a male-dominated art world. I admire her courage and the fearless way she pursued her craft. af Klint’s devotion to unveiling hidden truths resonates with the energy of Scorpio and the deeper layers I seek to explore in my own work. Find out more about Hilma and her paintings here.
Looking Ahead
As this new moon and birthday bring a new beginning, I feel aligned with the Scorpio spirit of diving into the depths and shedding the old to make way for transformation. This time of year, with Beltaine’s vibrancy and the magic of Halloween still lingering, feels especially potent. A reminder of the cycles of death, rebirth, and creation. As I set my intentions, I’m excited for the transformations to come, both in my art and in the path ahead. Here’s to new beginnings and embracing the mystery of what lies beneath. I would love to hear about your plan’s for embracing this the energies, let me know over on the Socials.
